 PRGC Mission Statement
Potomac River Greenways Coalition, Inc., PRGC, is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable and educational organization.
Our mission is to promote the development of multi-use trails in stream valleys and other greenway corridors within the Potomac River Basin that are environmentally friendly and "light-on-the-land" and to encourage the protection and environmentally sound stewardship of these stream valleys and greenway corridors.
We support the efforts of local volunteer groups that share our objectives and are working on specific initiatives, especially within Fairfax County and other jurisdictions in Northern Virginia. Generally, these groups have not been formally incorporated as non-profit organizations.
PRGCís preferred operational approach is to partner with local groups that are engaged in greenway and trail initiatives. As a 501(c)(3) organization we are able to provide financial services and support to these organizations in achieving our shared objectives. Specifically, we can accept funds, including private donations and government grants, and manage them on behalf of these organizations. PRGC also makes small grants for purposes that further our Mission.
Outreach and Fund Raising
During 2001 PRGC successfully increased the amount of funding on hand and available to support trail development and other stream valley activities from less than $2,000 to more than $8,000, largely through donations from individuals. Contributions are used to cover direct program expenses for volunteer groups. PRGC has minimal operational costs. We continue to seek monetary and in-kind contributions to support our efforts.
