| National Trails Day, June 2005 To celebrate National Trails Day on June 4, 2005, the Fairfax County Park Authority held an unveiling for the first of several large Cross-County Trail maps on Jermantown Road at Oak Marr Rec Center. Then 20 hikers carpooled to Colvin Run Mill (at Rt 7) and hiked back, about 10 miles. The FTAS hikers met equestrians from Hunter Valley Riding Club (HVRC) near Hunter Mill Road. One picture shows horses, bikes and hikers sharing the trail there. At two spots (just south of Lawyers Rd, and just south of Vale Rd), we had to use fallen logs to cross streams. Better crossings are planned for these sites; a bridge for the latter, and a ford for the former (recently reconstructed by HVRC volunteers).
