Pimmit Run Stream Cleanup Sites, Spring 2006

We plan to include the following sites in our April 1, 2006 stream cleanup. Sites may be added or subtracted due to the availability of volunteers and/or the conditions we find during our pre-cleanup survey of the stream channel. If you're planning to participate, please contact Ed Pickens by phone (703-448-0415) or via email in order to get the latest information. Ed can also provide information about the accessibility and appropriateness of particular sites for volunteers who have physical limitations and/or will be bringing children.

Since we are not able to provide supervision ourselves, we ask that every 2 children ages 9 and under and every 5 children ages 10-13 be accompanied by at least one adult. Young people ages 14-18 may participate on their own with their parents' permission. All participants need to have a signed release form; parents of minors who will be attending alone or with an adult other than a parent (and anyone who wants to get a head start on paperwork) can download the form here.

All volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided.

There are 21 sites in all, 14 along the main stems of Pimmit Run and Little Pimmit Run (listed immediately below beginning at Chain Bridge and working upstream); 4 along two Pimmit tributaries, Saucy Branch (located in southwestern McLean) and Burke's Spring Branch (in the West Falls Church area of Fairfax County); 1 on Scotts Run; and 2 (tentative) sites on Dead Run. The Cleanup begins at 9am.
