Construction on the CCT: Fall/Winter 2005

Recent construction on the Cross-County Trail coincides with the official grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony of the CCT by the Fairfax County Park Authority in December 2005.

Two Tectonic (modular) foot bridges were built by Fairfax County Park Authority staff and volunteers. One bridge is just south of the Dulles Access Road near Meadowlark Park, the other is south of Vale Road.

Before the bridge at Vale Road was installed trail users had to scrambe across this tributary of Difficult Run using two fallen tree trunks:

An underpass shown here under construction in December 2005 eliminates a dangerous street crosssing on the Cross-County Trail at Browns Mill Road:

A brand new section of the Cross-County Trail shown here under construction in November 2005 links King Arthur Road (and the trail to Fairfax City) with Little River Turnpike (and the trail to Lake Accotink). This newest section has 3 bridges over Accotink Creek, and 3 road underpasses at the southern end:
